Another inspiration (#3)

Every once in awhile, I see an example of 3D modeling or rendering that really inspires me.  I ran across one today on the “Architectural Illustration” group on LinkedIn that I wanted to share.  Showcasing 3D architectural work by computer graphics artist Fabien Valour of Switzerland, this short demo reel features lots of cool effects like flowing water, blazing fires in fireplaces, flickering candle flames, a bubbling hot tub — and a unique approach to showing how the final products take shape.

Enjoy!

  1. I’m inspired!

    Thanks for posting 🙂

  2. I know — how can you NOT be inspired by that?!! (and perhaps a little intimidated as well). Thanks for stopping by, Jonathan. Nice to see you here!

  3. Hey Kath it’s Gene…very cool!!! My guess would be Max and Vray. Keep up the good work,.

    • Thanks, Gene. I’m not familiar with those two programs, other than by name. Do you think they’re top-of-the-line for modeling and rendering?

      • Yes…and yes.

Quite often they’re what the people in the CG industry use.

      • Hmmm…. maybe I need to investigate… or invest. 🙂 I imagine they’re pretty pricey. Have either of you used either program? How much of a learning curve?

      • No and not sure.

3ds Max is a whole different modelling software. With the price of that (about $3500 according to their website), I think you’d have to stay pretty dedicated to that particular software. Although it would be nice to have CA as a backup for any plans you get from CA users.

I’m not sure what Vray costs. There wasn’t anything on their site. But it looks fairly sophisticated just by looking at screen shots and tutorials.

If it was me, I would skip Max, and go just with Vray. If it was something that you wanted to pursue, then you could purchase Max at a later date.

  4. I don’t plan to be modeling anything besides houses, which Chief does pretty darned well, so I think that’s good advice Jonathan. Have you upgraded to X4? Played with the renderer at all? People are saying it’s much better, but I’m still not won over.

    • Yes…our company has SSA, so we automatically get the upgrades.

I’m working on getting it installed right now.

I haven’t had time to play with the rendering portion of it. I like KT, and haven’t found a reason to switch (unless it’s to Thea).

  5. Hello there, You have done an incredible job. I will definitely digg it and personally recommend to my friends. I am confident they will be benefited from this web site.
